German film festival to screen Iranian ‘Immortality’

The Munich Int’l Film Festival is to screen Iranian feature film ‘Immortality’.

The 2017 edition of the Munich International Film Festival has scheduled to screen Iranian feature film ‘Immortality’.

Directed by Mehdi Fard-Qaderi, the Iranian flick will go on the German screen two times on June 28 and 30, 2017.

‘Immortality’ is Fard-Qaderi's first feature film that depicts events happening on a train during a rainy night.

It tells the story of six different families on different wagons of the train, gradually unfolding their stories.

“When I try to imagine you, I feel kind of immortality; when I call you, I feel kind of immortality; when I look at you, I feel kind of immortality; when I touch you, I feel kind of immortality; when I smell you, again I feel kind of immortality,” the film’s synopsis reads.

Fard-Qaderi's 151-minute film experienced its first international screening last year at the Rome Film Festival in Italy.

Notable among the cast are Anna Nemati, Manouchehr Alipour, Alireza Ostadi, Soudabeh Bayzai, Maral Farjad, Atabak Naderi and Sana Norouzbeigi.

Born in 1986 in Nishapur, Iran, Fard-Qaderi is a graduate of Ancient Building Restoration from Zabol University and the Iranian Young Cinema film courses in Tehran.

He started making short films in 2005 with ‘Alternation’. His other short films are ‘Life of Khorshid’ (2008), ‘Gramophone’ (2010), ‘The Reversed Circles’ (2011), ‘Mirror Narration of Simple Stories’ (2013), and ‘Story of Rainy Night’ (2014).

'Immortality’ is his debut feature film. His short films have been screened at more than 80 festivals around the world and earned over 20 awards.

Launched in1983, Munich International Film Festival (Filmfest München) is the largest summer film festival in Germany and second only in size and importance to the Berlinale.

It has been held annually in late June to present feature films and feature-length documentaries. The festival is also proud of the role it plays in discovering talented and innovative young filmmakers.

This edition of the German event is slated for June 22 to July 1, 2017.
